Last night Wilburn D Moore Jr and Jennifer Smith accepted Century Farm recognition from Virginia Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Katie Frazier, at James Monroe’s Highland Farm.
Poplar Grove is the first farm in Stafford to receive the recognition, and at 219 years old, it is one of the oldest farms in the program. The Century Forrest program recognizes Virginia families who have cared for forested areas for more than 100 years. The Curtis,French, Fitzhugh, Moore, and Smith families have conserved 122 acres of forest at Poplar Grove Farm since approximately 1807.
