“Uncle Charles” James French was the son of Sally Curtis and James French.

As he got older, Charles moved into the farmhouse at Poplar Grove Farm where his sister-in-law, Lula, took care of him. He was ever appreciative to her for her attentive care, noting it in his will when he left his property to her. He died in her home at Poplar Grove Farm on February 11, 1920, according to John French Fitzhugh.

Charles is buried in the French-Fitzhugh Family cemetery at Poplar Grove Farm.
